We owe it to Anja Silja and Jessye Norman that this work has come to the attention of so many. What a creation, and what a waste that it was Norman’s last role in the Metropolitan!
One can hear how all the singers gave their best to bring their roles to live, and this makes for an enchanting performance. The excellent English translation is quite understandable thanks to the great recording technique, therefore one hardly needs the visual. It is both a brilliant document and a tribute to Jessye Norman.
