For most fans Ben Heppner is the main attraction. Idomeneo was already part of his repertoire before his international breakthrough. The voice lost some of its suppleness, but he’s absolutely no disappointment. One can hear however the great sensation is Carol Vanes with one of her great Mozart interpretations, in which she was unsurpassed during this period. For many Susanne Mentzer will be a welcome contribution to their voice-discography and rightfully so. Only Dawn Upshaw sounds a little weak compared to the others in both voice and interpretation.
