I think that after R. Strauss – Vier letzte Lieder and some Mahler Lieder, Berlioz with his Les nuits d’été is the most wanted cycle. For Strauss Elisabeth Schwarzkopf remains the grand legend, Kathleen Ferrier for Mahler and Régine Crespin for Berlioz. Therefore other interpretations are often overlooked. On these CD’s you’ll hear a collection of very special recordings, none of which deserve a Grand Prix du Disque, but belong in every collection of Berlioz-lovers.
