In the recording studio Ghena Dimitrova was one of the most underestimated vocalists of her time. It needs to be said that her voice was hard to record and “live” was a better representation. She was a great Verdi-singer and because of the range of her voice she could alternate between Aida and Amneris or Elisabetta and Eboli. She was vocally the accurate Turandot and her Norma belongs to the greatest of her time. La Gioconda, in Verona, was the beginning of her international career. She lacks the subtlety Renata Scotto knew to put in the role or the beauty of a Martina Arroy, but the voice is solid as a rock and sounds indefatigable. She’s surrounded by singers who for many of you will be a first acquaintance.
