Frankfurt 1951
For many opera lovers the libretto of von Einem’s “Dantons Tod” will stir associations with Giordano’s “Andrea Chenier”. That’s about as far as any comparison goes. Andrea Chenier is a must for every tenor, soprano and baritone, who wants to excel in the Italian opera repertoire. Dantons Tod is a work defined by the firm drama, supported by a surprising orchestration. The human voice is integrated and framed by the choir that in fact gets the main role. The cast of the world premiere in 1947 and the performance 20 years later also lead to curiosity to get acquainted with this work, that not many people know. The bonus track focuses on Boris Blacher, von Einem’s teacher, with a number of soloists at the beginning of their career.
