I Masnadieri is a welcome supplement in the edition of a complete Verdi-cycle. The stars of this performance are Elizabeth Connel and Matteo Manuguerra. Manuguerra made more recordings than Elizabeth Connel, who was basically totally neglected. In spited of that, she’s one of the most interesting singers and interpreters of the recent years. She developed from mezzo to dramatic soprano, is rich in nuances, has a good technique and is absolutely an interesting performer. The other singers are effective and the audience turned more and more enthusiastic during the performance. On the label Papillon we have more of Elizabeth Connel.
