There are three different kinds of lovers of Songs: 1. Those who only love Songs accompanied with piano. They dissociate themselves from Songs with orchestral accompaniment in that they resemble opera too much and disturb the intimacy of the Song.
2. The lover of Songs with orchestra, indeed are often also lovers of opera, who find the Songs with piano something annoying. Unlike the first category they also don’t like instrumental and chamber music.
3. The lovers of both categories.
We intend to focus on Songs with orchestra on well-known combinations, but will also feature less known repertoire, among others Sergei Prokofiev: ”The ugly duckling op.18” that in the performance of Regina Resnik indeed points at the opera repertoire. The orchestral Songs of Ernest Hermann Meyer and Sparre Olsen will be a first acquaintance for many listeners and will be worth trying.
